After 34 years at the School of Nursing at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, Linda Andrist has begun her retirement.

Linda C. Andrist came to the Institute of Health Professions in 1984. She helped design the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) program in which she taught until 2007. In 1991 she became the coordinator and redesigned the curriculum to add the Adult NP – the Dual Adult WHNP program continues today. She strived to raise students’ awareness of the history of women’s health in this country through one of the early courses, Women Across the Lifecycle, incorporating feminist theory in the readings and discussions. She worked for many years as an NP at various reproductive health centers. From 2007-2011 she became the Director of the fledgling DNP program and helped build the curriculum for the Post Master’s then the Executive and BSN-DNP cohorts. In 2011 she was appointed Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies, which included the DNP and Master’s programs. March of 2015 brought another promotion to Interim Dean which she held for one year. With new leadership, she was asked to become the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Program Innovation. She remained in this position until her retirement in 2017. As an advocate for students, she mentored hundreds of students and hopes to pass on her legacy.

In her honor, the IHP seeks to create a permanent, endowed scholarship in her name. This scholarship will allow the IHP to provide support to future nursing students who will continue and build on Linda’s legacy. Given her lifelong commitment to nursing education, we believe that a lasting scholarship is a fitting way to commemorate Linda.

The MGH Institute Fund relies on philanthropic support from our alumni and friends to be the great Institution that it is. Your gift will have an immediate impact on both current and future students.
